Dear
Prayer-Partners,
“Children’s children are the crown of old men.” Proverbs 17:6. I
certainly don’t feel old but Ruby and I are rejoicing that we have
one of those wonderful “crowns”! Jarren Daniel Stockeland was born
to Luke and Anne on Monday, October 2. We arrived in Arkansas a
week later and have been enjoying that beautiful grandson every
day. Thank you, Lord, for this tremendous blessing in our lives!
SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
We started
the school lunch program by giving each of the students a piece of
bread with peanut butter each day. Needless to say, they were
thrilled! The teachers have told me that it has changed their
school. They said the students are no longer falling asleep, they
are happier and they actually move around and have some fun during
recreation time. Just before we left to come home we were able to
buy a good amount of beans & rice. The plan is to serve one hot
meal per week and bread & peanut butter the other days until more
support comes in. This project is a great blessing to all the
families involved in the school.
OVEN PROJECT
We built a
bread oven across the street from the school. It is having a
significant impact after only two weeks of operation. They sell
bread to people in the community and the profit enables them to sell
it at cost to the school. We are rapidly getting to the point where
we can start to help our second school just a half hour walk down
the road. This will free up more money to buy beans, rice and other
food to make a warm meal for the students.
TEACHERS’ SALARIES
We made a
special appeal for teachers’ salaries in our last letter. We thank
the Lord for the response. A generous donation was given for the
building of a school and paying the teachers salaries for a period
of time. We can’t wait to get going on that project. We still need
a few more sponsors for teachers at $30 per month.
HURRICANE
We weathered
a hurricane while in Haiti. Ruby stayed at our home church while I
went to preach at a mountain church. I had three other men with me.
It started raining as we were coming down the mountain and by the
time I picked Ruby up, it was raining hard. We got back to town as
fast as we could and the hurricane hit five minutes after we arrived
at our house. Other than getting soaking wet we survived ok.
Special note: We received several e-mail messages in the days
following asking us how we weathered the hurricane. Evidently,
everyone knew it was coming except us!!! Now that we have cell
phones, you can help us greatly by calling and letting us know of
bad weather heading our way. THANKS!
BUILDING PROJECTS
We started
another church building and it is being worked on as I type this
letter. There are more projects going on than I have space to list
right here. Suffice it to say the building fund is always in need
of help!
MISSION COMPLEX
We have some
land on which to build! The Lord provided someone up the mountain
with land but they were interested in our land down below. We ended
up trading land and now we are ready to get started. As the Lord
provides, we would like to build a house for us, a garage, a work
shop and a guest house for our work teams. Right now that fund
stands at $ 0, so please pray with us and we will see what the Lord
will do! As the Lord directs you can designate those gifts to
“mission complex.”
SEMINARS
I did two
more Bible seminars, one was in our home church and many, from
several churches we didn’t know before, attended. The preachers tell
me it was the best seminar yet and it thrills my heart to see lives
and churches changing in response to the Word of God.
We plan to
return to Haiti right after Thanksgiving. We thank each of your for
your interest and help in the Lord’s work in Haiti.
In Christ
our Savior,
Pastor Dave
& Ruby
