Dear Ministry Partners,
“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own
special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is
healthy and growing and full of love” (Eph. 4:16).
THANK YOU: We thank all of you for your ‘work’ either
prayerfully, financially or giving gifts of school supplies, clothing,
medical supplies, building supplies, household items, baby layettes, sewing
kits, etc. (too many to list). We are also very thankful for the groups who
have come to Haiti to assist with various building projects and/or ministry.
PRAYER & FINANCES FOR MISSION COMPLEX: As we mentioned in our
last newsletter, our apartment had been broken into again, and a lot of our
things were stolen. Some good news - we have found another place to rent
that has more security. Most places here rent for $1000USD to $2000USD per
month, but the landlord is willing to give us this house for $700 per month,
an example of the Lord’s favor. We have to pay $8400USD (12 months rent) in
advance and we are short about $2000, so we are praying that the money will
come in for that. Also, although we will have a little more security, we
will still be limited in terms of space, for example, the small yard is
shared with another house. You can see that it’s important that we begin
building a mission complex as soon as possible. The complex would include a
small two bedroom house for us, a four bedroom guest house for groups, and a
garage and depot for supplies. We have some land on which to build but we
lack the funds. Please pray for direction on how the Lord would have you
become involved in this project.
BUILDING PROJECTS AND FUND: Praise the Lord, gas has arrived
and projects are going great! We have finished the construction of two
toilets, one for our Christian school at Te Rouge and other for the pastor’s
house. With the help of a group from Missouri, we finished putting the roof
on the school extension at Dechamps, and we have started building a kitchen
for the school. Our next project is to build a new church at Dechamps. This
is a very special building project as funds for this was provided through
the memorial offerings for little Hannah, an eight year old girl from
Tennessee, who went to be with the Lord last summer. She had always wanted
to help Haiti Bible Mission with building churches in Haiti, and this was
her request before she died. As you continue to give to the building fund,
we will be able to provide a church or badly needed house for some of our
other country preachers.
SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM: We are praising the Lord for the awesome
change in our schools since we began providing the students with a meal last
September! We started at one school, with about 170 students, with bread and
peanut butter five days a week, then we began the same at another school of
about 120 students. Since then, as more money has come in, we have been able
to give them a meal of beans and rice three days a week and then bread and
peanut butter the other two days. Teachers are giving us wonderful reports
about the students – they are happier, have more energy, like to participate
in recreational activities, and they tell us that the children won’t even
stay at home now when they get sick because they don’t want to miss their
morning meal! As we receive more sponsors we hope to give the students a
meal of beans and rice every day. Your donations of $10 per month per
student is literally keeping some of these children alive as many go days
without anything to eat.
TEEN CAMP: Our second teen camp will be February 18-21. This
is the week of Mardi Gras, a popular time for camp as schools are out and it
gets the teens away from the worldly things going on. The cost for the teens
is $20 ($2.50USD) and many cannot afford it. Last summer, some church groups
sent money to help send Haitian teens to camp. If you are interested, you
can just designate your donation to CAMP SCHOLARSHIP FUND, and send it to
Haiti Bible Mission, Beth’El Baptist Church, Green Forest, AR.
BIBLE TEACHING SEMINARS: Dave has been very busy with teaching
seminars since last
November. One of his latest seminars was on praise and
worship and he invited a really good worship leader/musician along to teach
them how to lead worship with music. As well, Dave held an advanced seminar
in which he dealt with the various cults. The church leaders are very hungry
to learn more truth and many more churches are inviting Dave to come and
teach. Dave has also encouraged the principal of our three Christian schools
to hold monthly seminars with the teachers and also, to have chapel time for
the students once a week.
KIDNAPPINGS: Some of you have inquired about our safety in
light of all the reports you’ve heard of kidnappings in and around Port Au
Prince. We hear of them too but we feel relatively safe where we live.
Jeremie is quite a ways from PAP and it is a much smaller and quieter city.
However, we do use wisdom when we are out around. Thank you for your concern
and prayers.
We just had a group here from Missouri and it was a pleasure for me to take
care of them, to cook and bake and serve them. I’m looking forward to
another group coming the end of March. This is my first time doing the
newsletter and I am really enjoying it. It’s just another way that I can
help my husband. You too are a part of the work here through your prayers
and support and I want to say a big thank-you for that. The work here could
not go on without your help.
May the Lord bless all of you!
Pastor Dave and Ruby
