June 2026: Bringing the World Cup to Jérémie
For years, we've walked alongside the people of Jérémie, learning what matters to them, celebrating what they love, and responding to their needs. Ministry isn't just about what we bring; it's about building relationships and sharing life together.
This World Cup season, Haiti made its first tournament appearance since 1974 and the excitement across the country has been undeniable. Football is a language every Haitian speaks, and watching their nation compete on the world stage filled communities with a joy that was impossible to miss.
By providing TVs for communities around Jérémie, HBM created spaces where families, friends, and neighbors could gather to watch and celebrate together. Win or lose, we were right there with them sharing in the excitement, the tension, and yes, the disappointment of an early exit. Though eliminated in the group stage, Haiti scored their first World Cup goals in 52 years in a spirited final match against Morocco, and that moment brought real pride.
These screens were more than a gift, they were a ministry tool. When people gather, walls come down. And we are so grateful that in those moments of shared joy and shared disappointment, we had the opportunity to share something even greater: the gospel and the hope of salvation.
Barak Stockeland, son of CEO Mark Stockeland, has combined his deep passion for soccer, and his love of food, with a heart for the lost to create a ministry that is already making a big impact in Jérémie. 3Pasyon hosts competitive soccer matches at the HBM compound and in communities up to two hours away, using the sport as a bridge to share the gospel. After every match, Barak's heart is to provide a meal for the players building relationships around the table and creating natural, unhurried opportunities to speak about his faith in Christ.
