Critical Situation in Haiti

Dear HBM Partners,
First of all, thank you so much for partnering with us through thick and thin and the struggles we face. HBM is working hard to work in the communities as the country is really struggling. We love to share with you everything God is doing and how He is moving and changing lives for Him, but sometimes we need to show you the difficulties, as well.
Right now, Jeremie is cut off from the rest of the country. Demonstrators are using telephone poles and have welded together huge containers to block the roads. There won't be any supplies coming into Jeremie until that is taken care of.

  • The cost of everything, (which has already been rising!), went up another 30%!

  • There is no water. Not just the community, but also our compound and staff cannot get water. The water plants have shut down because they need fuel to operate.

  • There is no fuel, which means generators cannot run, and people cannot use their motos or vehicles. The HBM vehicles are all out of fuel right now. When we find fuel, it's being sold on the streets for up to $25 a gallon

  • People are starving. Dr Jackson, an HBM employee, says he has never seen so many people suffering from starvation.

We have said before "Things are worse than they ever have been", but this statement is true again. People are truly suffering. Our Director of Operations in Haiti, Pastor Eldet said he waited at the bank for half of the day to take money out for HBM's payroll and the bank would only give him a fraction of what he needed. Our leaders are now also suffering without the paycheck they were expecting to provide for their families.

We need your help.

We desperately need you to join us in prayer. Please pray for the country, for the unrest and ALL the people who are suffering. Pray for our staff and leaders as they try to provide things to others that they cannot even get for themselves. We have a courier coming to Haiti next week to bring some supplies and money. Please pray for protection for that individual as well. Pray for MAF as they are trying to continue flights despite the risks.
We also need your financial support. If you feel led to give, please do so ASAP so the funds will be available to take back to Jeremie next week. To meet the basic needs of running our compound, HBM is having to accumulate some debt right now. When the economy comes back, we don't want to be so buried in debt that we can't press on with our ministries.

We need some things beyond basic operating costs, if you would like to partner with us specifically:

  • $4,000 to host 2 Mobile Medical Clinics

  • $5,000 for a fuel tank for the compound so if this crisis ever happens again, we can be prepared with fuel storage

  • $6,000 for food kits
For $60 per family, we can distribute food kits that provide enough food for 5-7 days. Our goal is 100 families to start!

God is faithful. He has always provided everything we need and we are trusting in Him!

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
— Romans 8:28

This is the line outside of the bank in Jeremie this morning. The people didn’t discover until they made it inside that there is no money to be withdrawn.

Agape Flights Attack

Dear HBM family,
Our hearts are breaking as one of our partners in ministry Agape Flights has experienced a significant loss today. An Agape crew flew to Les Cayes, Haiti to meet with and serve their partners in the country, including HBM. Rioting broke out in Les Cayes because of the high cost of transportation and insecurity in the country. These rioters targeted the Agape plane and destroyed it. Thankfully the crew is all safe, but this is still a devastating loss for Agape. We are asking that you join with us in prayer for protection and wisdom for everyone involved and for the people of Haiti. We know God has a plan and will use this for good somehow to advance His kingdom. Our God works miracles!
